Five Yes’ to the iPhone 5S!

Apple launched the iPhone 5S along with the 5C, pouring cold water on those expecting an iPhone 6. But hey, the new derivatives of iPhone 5 are no pushover. My earlier article panned the iPhone 5C. It’s now the turn of iPhone 5S to take center stage. Comparisons between the three versions that is 5, 5C and 5S reveal that 5S is notches better than the other two.

The rest of this article delves into what makes the iPhone 5S is the current heart throb even though it is the most expensive Apple phone to date.

Yes No. 1: Exterior

5S shows that it indeed belongs to the iPhone 5 family. Its avatar is just a tad different in the cosmetic treatment of its derma.

Colors: The skin of the 5S is available in 3 colors- White, Gray and a check-me-out Gold. White is a familiar color to iPhone lovers. But the graphite hued gray and champagne gold are big attractions. It is obvious that customers were looking for a new form factor which the gold seems to satisfy. As per the latest news trickling in, the gold iPhone 5S is in huge demand with customers willing to shell exorbitant amounts for it.

Apple is a premium brand and coupled with a royal color as gold, its show off value increases manifold. iPhone lovers want to get their hands on this new color to be the early ones to claim bragging rights!

The chamfered edges, aluminum rim, volume keys and the ring/silence keys, also coated in the new colors, are found in this version as well.

The solid build case and thought out contrasts lends the 5S a semblance of being sturdy yet attractive.

Yes No. 2: Display and Software

iPhone 5S sports the same 4 inch display screen as its predecessor iPhone 5. We don’t know if the compulsion to be identified with the iPhone 5 or to continue teasing us with a smaller screen size has forced Apple to retain the same screen size. A closer investigation reveals that the culprits could be the rotund home button (a finger print sensor for 5S) at the bottom end and the earpiece and front camera placed one below the other at the top end. Other phones, especially those sporting 5 inch screens have worked out ergonomic designs to provide the essential features without causing discomfort to the holder, example Samsung Galaxy 4. Oh, by the way the screen’s vivid and crisp at 326 pixels per inch and resolution of 1136*640.

On screen functions are purely a proprietary of the iOS 7. In fact they come out in full glory in the 5S, smooth, responsive and delightful. The complimenting functions of iOS 7, A7 and 64-bit architecture manifests brilliantly on the surface. Grapevine has it that Apple has garnished 5S’free apps list with Garage, Keynote, Numbers, movie and photo.

To understand the iOS 7 better, read my article authored in this website. Mobile application development and specifically iPhone application development will hope to experience exciting tumults!

Yes No. 3: Sensor

It may not have stretched the screen but it has a nice ring called fingerprint sensor to replace the slightly receding home button. The iPhone 5S provides you with an option to just use your finger to access your phone instead of a password. After all it is your mobile, it’s got to recognize you, isn’t it?

You can tap into the Settings page (use the phone’s guidance is you need tips) and register your fingerprint to let the phone know you are its owner. If you are the generous type to pass your phone to others also then you can register the others’ fingerprints as well. The phone can register up to 5 fingerprints. On registered the phone recognizes your finger print and then allows you access to it. Please be informed that the phone may take some time to get accustomed to your finger print. Therefore, don’t be surprised if the phone asks you to “try again”.

Yes No. 4: Camera

Apple’s worked hard on the 5S’ camera department and wants a pat on its back. We’ll take a rain check on that, after dissecting the 5S camera. Here’ some quick stats:

  • Camera nos.: 2 (front and rear)
  • Resolution: 8 MP (rear camera) and 1.2 MP FaceTime HD (front camera)
  • Aperture: f/2.2 (rear camera)
  • Flash: Dual LED flash called True Tone flash
  • Image Signal Processing (ISP)
  • Burst Mode (up to 10 frames per second)

The iPhone 5S has an improved 8 MP rear camera that delivers impeccable pictures and videos. Apple has introduced a dual tone flash called True Tone featuring a cool and a warm tone. So whenever you shoot a scene, the OS and camera system together detect the ambience of the scene and activate the flash using the right combination of LEDs to deliver true to original picture.

To use the Burst mode just press the shutter button a tad longer and shoot. The camera shoots upto 10 fps in burst mode and smartly processes the best captured features from among the frames. These are saved with a flag tagged on the pictures the 5S thinks are important.

Apple hasn’t forgotten the video aspect. A Slo-Mo camera mode is introduced in the 5S which films at 720 pixels videos at 120fps. This can be played at slower pace at 30fps. A built-in timeline slider allows you to slow a desired portion of the video. You can also share this video from your iPhone using the iOS 7 phenomenal sharing features.

Yes No. 5: Processors and Battery

Apple has been touting the A7 as the best hardware to partner iOS 7. It does turn out to be true. A7 pushes the OS to display unravel itself in full glory. The blush wallpaper, slick icons, crisp text and colorful animations that has fans ooh and aah are due to the A7 engine as are the quick app launches and nifty response, smooth transitions between screens and functions and support content rich functions (camera).

M7-the motion twin of A7: Let’s call it the power manager. Apple knifed off this motion co-processing chip with the A6. The A6 metamorphosed into the A7 and this baby got christened the M7. This whiz chip takes over from the A7 when it detects the phone’s dormant status and commences processing for low power apps. This serves to conserve batter power during standby boosting its power per charge. In addition to this task, it behaves like a sensor hub, gathering data from motion dependent apps like compass, accelerometer and gyroscope thereby economizing the battery usage. Third party apps especially the health and fitness dipping into sensory functions will benefit from the M7.

Imagine a situation where the M7 detects if you are walking or driving and provides you the directions. And, if you are driving, it may bar iOS from requesting you to connect to Wi-Fi networks along the way. That’s M7 for you, folks!

Battery: the 5S boasts of a 5.96Kwh battery that saves approximately 10% more battery power. These savings is plowed back to enhance the performance. The stellar role played by M7 and intelligent management algorithms of the iOS 7 are great contributors in bringing about a better battery performance.

The 5S outperforms all other smartphones, across all OS technologies, and within its family as well. The new OS, iOS 7 and powerful multi core processors – A7 and M7 do their bit to multiply its performance. Camera, multi tasking and other user critical functions climb to new heights that taking you, the User along with them! Apple has, at the same retained the well appreciated technologies like Retina display in the 5S as well. Those indulging in iPhone app development now have a complete setup to run their iOS 7 based apps.

It is not surprising that despite being birthed at the same time, this stately iPhone is selling more than the 5C, labeled as the common man’s iPhone.

Unlock iPhone 5 for Maximize Usage

After a lot of speculations and discussions it has been confirmed that iPhone 5 can be unlocked. Since the day iPhone 5 has hit the market, people have been concerned about how to unlock the device. After experimenting with a number of techniques to unlock the iPhone, it has been determined that the cost of unlocking this software is quite expensive. Unlocking an iPhone is not a difficult task if you have done the right research and you have the right tools. Most networks that come with iPhone 5 have kept it locked so that they can restrict the usage to only person. Verizon made the first attempt of unlocking the iPhone 5 model. Since people prefer to use their phone on different networks there was a demand to cater to the same by unlocking the device.

Unlocking the iPhone 5 model can be done in two ways; hardware unlocking and software unlocking. Hardware unlocking is bad for the device whereas software can be easily done. Only professionals can do hardware unlocking and is not recommended. The software unlocking can be easily done and is not at all harmful. You must confirm whether the new carrier supports the iPhone or not. After this, identify the modern firmware that your device uses. This can be also known by looking into the phone’s settings menu.

Identify the specifications of your iPhone. You must invest in appropriate jail breaking software to break the coded software. The jailbreaking software must be compatible with the iPhone set up. The speed and acceptance of every network is different. An iPhone may work slower in one and faster in the other. Make the smart phone interesting by unlocking the device. Below mentioned are few important points that you must keep in mind before unlocking your iPhone5.

• Do not choose cheap software to unlock the iPhone. This software is usually not compatible with the OS and may damage it. Select high quality software as it will be user friendly and will ensure guaranteed results.

• A software by the name of iPhone 5IMEI unlock is good at this work. It can permanently unlock an iPhone 5. This is a major advantage as people need not worry if an updated version of the same comes in the market.

• A number of software are available that will not void the warranty of Apple. There are SIM cards available that can be inserted into the device to unlock the phone. After you take out the SIM, the phone will get unlocked, without voiding the warranty.

• Choose unlocking software that has experience in unlocking iPhones. There are few developers that specialize in unlocking iPhone only. You must not compensate on the service quality by buying cheap software. Such software will harm your phone and make it unstable.

• Look for a service that is compatible with all networks. It will serve no purpose to unlock the phone if it does not work with other networks.

What Makes Apple IPhone 3G Your Perfect Choice?

Apple has launched its latest mobile device iPhone 3G, which calls for the attention to the feature missing from the original release -3G support. Well its not the only killer feature, the full GPS system in it is here to stay. But the most eye catching aspect of the iPhone 3G is its price tag of $199 and $299 which is just 1/3 of the models launched a year ago.

I would like to highlight some key features of this mobile device which may help you make the right choice…

Should you buy it?

1)The Design Is Great

The phone measures a hair thicker (0.48 inches versus 0.46 inches) in the gut.It weighs 4.7 ounces.

A single Home button sits just below the screen. The back of the phone is made of plastic skin with black version for 8GB models, while 16GB version in black and white.

Apple has done away with the irritating recessed headphone jack, which now is flush so that you’ll be able to use any 3.5mm headphones you like.

The camera lens, volume rocker, charger port, speaker, microphone, power button, and display locking switch all are perfectly placed making this gadget a success.

2)3G Speed Worldwide and the GPS features at your fingertip!

With support for 3G bands and both UMTS and HSDPA networks, the iPhone 3G is well positioned for using high-speed networks all around the world.Email attachments and web pages load twice as fast on 3G networks as on 2G EDGE networks to be precise its almost 2.8 times faster. And since iPhone 3G seamlessly switches between EDGE, faster 3G, and even faster Wi-Fi, you always get the best speeds possible.

You can even talk and browse at the same time. But 3G technology lets you multitask in more places – without connecting via Wi-Fi.

And if you’re in an area without a 3G network, iPhone connects you via GSM for calls and EDGE for data.the iPhone 3G uses Assisted GPS supplemented by satellites. It also offers live tracking so you can monitor your progress as you drive (or walk) along.

iPhone 3G delivers UMTS, HSDPA, GSM, Wi-Fi, EDGE, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR in one compact device – using only two antennas.

3)Excellent Multi-touch controls

With its large Multi-Touch display and innovative software, iPhone lets you control everything using only your fingers. Type using the predictive keyboard, glide through albums with Cover Flow, scroll through photos with a flick, or zoom in and out on a section of a web page – all courtesy of Multi-Touch.

4)Accelerometer Motion Detector

iPhone responds to motion using a built-in accelerometer. When you rotate iPhone from portrait to landscape, the accelerometer detects the movement and changes the display accordingly. So you immediately see the entire width of a web page, view a photo in its proper aspect ratio, or control a game using only your movements.

5)Third-Party Apps And Softwares Are Plenty

the iPhone 3G will indeed support the collection of apps available through the iPhone SDK(Software Developer’s Kit). Gaming apps should feature prominently, many will integrate with the phone’s accelerometer. Some other
special features are :

Better Email Management

Contacts Search

Email Attachment Support

Scientific Calculator

MobileMe Support

6)Extra long Battery Life

Even though the inclusion of 3G in iphone has not affected its battery life. The iPhone 3G promises a solid 5 hours of 3G talk time, 10 hours of 2G talk time, 5 hours of 3G Internet time, 6 hours of Wi-Fi Internet time, 7 hours of video playback, 24 hours of audio playback, and 12.5 days standby time.

What else?

Since the latest iPhone will support the 2.0 software, additional new features will show up at launch, including contacts search, iWork document support, the capability to view PowerPoint attachments, bulk move and delete, a scientific calculator in landscape mode, parental controls, and support for 16 languages. iPhone also has a multilingual keyboard and a removable SIM card.

Only If iPhone Had These Included…

you will not get multimedia messaging along with voice dialing and video recording.I still don’t understand why Apple can’t include these basic features. I am also hoping for a landscape keyboard and the capability to cut and paste.

Phone And Internet Service Providers

Purchasers will still need to sign a two-year contract with AT&T to use the phone. And the price for a basic plan increases by $10 for 3G usage (that is, $30 a month for unlimited data, with voice plans starting at $39.99 a month). Unlimited 3G data plans for business users will be available for $45 a month.

The Final Say…

The addition of 3G and GPS, the affordable price tag of $199 for 8GB and $299 for 16GB versions, and extra features from the iPhone 2.0 software update make the iPhone 3G a worthy prospect. So, if you are an iPhone fringe-watcher now’s the time.
